DESIGNING LUXURY HOMES
Custom Architecture, Landscape and Detail Integration
At EHD, we believe that great architecture doesn’t stop at the walls of a
home, it flows seamlessly into the landscape and throughout every detail
of the property, shaping how a space feels, functions, and welcomes you
in. Building luxury homes relies on this collaborative design process that
includes a wide range of trusted subcontractors and experts who help us
bring each project to life.
For new construction, we bring landscape architects in early — typically after the architectural layout is set but before site grading and exterior materials are finalized. This timing ensures the outdoor design is fully integrated, both functionally and aesthetically, with the architecture. Landscape architects are also crucial for managing site-specific challenges like drainage, soil conditions, or tree preservation. Their technical expertise combined with our architectural vision results in outdoor spaces that are not only beautiful but sustainable and well-integrated.
EARLY COORDINATION FOR PROJECT SUCCESS
The same principle of collaboration applies to other collaborators. Whether it’s lighting designers, engineers, or drapery specialists, we involve the right partners early — so their expertise can inform and enhance the design from the beginning. Early coordination avoids costly revisions down the line and allows us to deliver more intentional, seamless results.
For example, in one of our recent projects, we worked closely with structural engineers from the outset to design a large skylight over the entry atrium. The skylight wasn’t just an architectural feature — it also needed to support the weight of custom light fixtures. By looping in engineering early, we were able to solve the structural challenges creatively and achieve a stunning result that felt effortless.
DESIGNING HARDSCAPE AND THE VALUE OF SPECIALIST COLLABORATION
Hardscape refers to the built elements of a landscape — patios, pathways, retaining walls, steps, and driveways. These elements ground the home in the site and define how the exterior spaces are used and experienced. At EHD, we approach hardscape design the same way we approach interiors: with thoughtfulness, balance, and a focus on materials and flow.
We also coordinate with fabric and drapery experts to ensure elements like window treatments are not an afterthought, but an integral part of the overall design. Drapery affects light, acoustics, and mood — so we plan for it during construction, accounting for hidden tracks, ceiling recesses, and proper clearance. When integrated early, these details elevate the space and make every room feel complete.
Collaborating across disciplines — from landscape and lighting to structural engineering and interior detailing — is what allows us to deliver luxury homes. Every decision is made in conversation with the right expert, ensuring that design intent, function, and execution are aligned.
